The Story of Lamborghini
I was watching the movie “Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend” a few days back, and it’s an interesting story. So I thought it was worth sharing with you guys too.
So, Ferruccio Lamborghini, was born to a family of farmers in 1916 Italy. He served in World War II as a mechanic and came back to Italy afterwards, where he started his tractor company. He eventually ventured into the air conditioning and oil-burning businesses too. With the industrial boom in the post-WW2 era, these companies flourished and Ferruccio Lamborghini became a well-known name in Italy.
However, all of us know the name Lamborghini because of the beautiful sports cars produced by the company. So let’s get to how that company came to be.
Apparently, Lamborghini was upset with one of his Ferraris’ clutches and he went to Enzo Ferrari himself to talk about the issue, and the service he received was not to his standards. In the movie, Ferrari tells Lamborghini to “Go back to your tractors, farmer.” Now this may not be the actual conversation but it definitely was close to it, because apparently, this conversation catapulted Lamborghini to decide to build a better car.
In 1963, Ferruccio Lamborghini founded Automobili Lamborghini, and under his leadership, the company quickly rose to fame. The sleek designs, innovative additions and of course, the strong engines meant that these cars were wanted by car enthusiasts dearly.
I’m sure you know, Lamborghini’s auto company’s emblem is a raging bull. That too is the result of Ferrucio’s likeness for the majestic Miura animals he saw in a ranch in 1962. You can see that emblem in the video below.
All of Ferrucio’s companies still operate today. The clothing/merchandise business, the Lamborghini winery and some other institutions are run by his descendants. But the most famous company he created, the one that makes sports cars was sold by him in 1987. Chrysler bought it then, but sold it to MegaTech in 1994 and it eventually ended up with the Volkswagen Group in 1998, which still owns it.
Ferruccio Lamborghini is not with us today but his name and his legacy live on. He was not born rich, but his story teaches us that competency and drive can lead you to the promised land.
