Dwayne Johnson, The Businessman
We’ve talked about cricketers, footballers, tennis stars and have now shifted to the acting industry, with the last one being Mark Wahlberg. Let’s talk about one of the highest earners in the same industry today: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Here’s him sitting peacefully.
But seriously, this is him.
He first came into the limelight during his stint with the WWE from 1996 to 2004, around which time, his nickname came to be “The Rock”. He began his acting career in 2001 and shifted to it full-time in 2004. Surprisingly, even at that time, his star power was such that he was paid $5.5 million for his first movie “The Scorpion King”, which was released in 2002. He was the 4th highest-paid entertainer in 2022 according to Forbes, behind only legends like Peter Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z.
He made $270 million to make that spot in the list, but much of that didn’t come from his movies, his job income so to say. He made most of the money through the various businesses he has created over the years. The most famous of them might be the alcohol brand “Teremana Tequila”.
The liquor brand was started in 2020 and sold 400k cases that year, double what George Clooney’s brand Casamigos did the year it was acquired for around $1 billion. The Teremana brand has multiplied its business in the past 3 years and by these metrics is reported to be more than $3 billion now. With the reported 30% stake Johnson holds in the company, that would mean somewhere around $1 billion, of course, before the tax bill comes.
He also owns a production company named “Seven Bucks Productions” which he started with his ex-wife in 2012. He’s also pretty much associated with the clothing brand Under Armour through their partnership called Projet Rock Collection. Johnson also reportedly owns a stake in the energy drink company, Zoa Energy.
He’s also ventured into the sports league business by backing the XFL football league through Alpha Entertainment LLC. And needless to say, The Rock has had numerous endorsement deals with brands from across the board. The most prominent ones would be Apple and Ford.
He also owns a “bit” of real estate. He sold a Georgia estate he bought in 2019 for the price of $7.5 million, at a reported $2 million loss. Also, in 2021, he bought a very famous Beverly Park Mansion for almost $29 million, where he currently resides. He also owns a luxury car collection worth more than $5 million, which boasts cars from the biggest manufacturers in the world.
His brand power, acting skills and business prowess will soon make him a billionaire, his net worth is currently a couple hundred million short of that right now. And maybe, he’ll actually be a billionaire in cash terms if he decides to sell his Teremana stake at any point.
As we’ve seen through most of these articles, people don’t become “rich” rich by working only their day jobs, well bar a few like Steve Ballmer. You need to have more than one play in your pocket. Along with that, you need to be able to leverage your network, because I doubt Dwayne Johnson himself knows how to make tequila, energy drinks and make athletic wear. But he’s in business with people who do and he brings value in whatever way he can (his brand value and his capital).
So let’s take that away from The Rock and create value wherever possible. And while that’s it for this article, you read more from me here. And do let me know if you want a specific topic covered! Subscribe for free to receive more posts like this every day!
